Happy Boo Day, Marina!

Halloween has been the most special day of the year for my family for the past 6 years. My daughter was born on October 31st 2018 so we always have extra reasons to celebrate. This year was the first time I decided to actually do a Halloween-themed birthday party for her and I had a lot of fun putting everything together.

It was a mix of homemade, custom-ordered and store-bought stuff all around. And a lot of blood, sweat and tears. (OK, just sweat.) For the overall Halloween home decor, I got Halloween pillow covers, monster stickers and some orange tissue paper for the windows, some creepy cloth and tons of plastic bats. I also hung this 3-ghost “wreath” I had made last year inspired by this pin.

My pillow covers, window monsters and balloons.
Spooky and cute.
Outside nigh time view of my window monsters.
Side windows of my house.

Especially for the party, I covered the TV in the creepy cloth as well, and hung a BOO balloon on it. Since I decided that my kid would dress as a cute witch, I also ordered this custom-made witch clothing line banner (inspired by this one) that I thought was so extremely cute to hang over our fireplace.

This cloth has such a cool effect.
I used 1 roll of crepe streamers in each color for that. End gave it a final touch with some of those bats.

I also added a type of skirt to my kitchen counter made with orange and black crepe streamers to add a pop of color to the party. Such a cheap decor option and very easy to set up. Since I had a ton left, I ended up decorating the baby gate we have at the top of our stairs as well. And I used a little bit to make the hair on my bathroom monster door.

Guess how long it took for kids to tear this down…
The creepy eyes I got at the dollar store and used some black washi tape for the mouth and brows.

Then, for the cake “table” I really let my creativity take over. I have this buffet furniture that fit perfectly with what I had in mind. The empty shelves allowed me to play with the decor in layers instead of laying it all on the top. I got a paper mache letter M and a number 3 at Hobby Lobby and covered them in a mix of paper and felt. I also ordered this adorably spooky felt garland from Etsy and got the plush witch at Target. Finally, I used tons of small squashes from the pumpkin patch to complete the bottom part of the decor. Up on the wall, I bought a witch hat wreath form that I covered with felt and added her name with sticker letter. The frame has a drawing my niece made and sent to my daughter that was just so amazing I had to show it off.  The Happy Boo Day banner I custom ordered, inspired by this pin.

I’ve been seeing this “minimalistic” cake table ideas a lot lately.
Last minute I stumbled upon a trio of Beanie Boos (a ghost, a pumpkin and a bat) and had to buy them.

For the actual sweets, the cake stand I already had, the cupcake stands I got at Amazon and the little cake pop buckets I snatched up at the dollar store. For the typical Brazilian party sweets we call “brigadeiros”, I custom ordered these truffle cups to match the colors and the theme.

I dare you to guess how many witch hats were displayed in this party. 😛

If you haven’t tried “brigadeiros”, you haven’t lived.

Now for the snacks, I admittedly overdid it. But I kinda got carried away with the theme. The main attraction was the puking pumpkin. Homemade guacamole, some chips, a small pumpkin and a black marker is all you need for this work of art. As always, charcuterie boards for both adults and kids, the classic cauldron with popcorn, some dinner rolls, fruits, caprese bites and some cheese, cranberry, pecan truffles to add a nice touch. These bowls and picks gave the spooky touch needed for the party.

These cheese and parma straws I got at Costco are an easy and delicious appetizer.

Finally, for activities, besides the party freeze game and a bouncy house, I also did a Poke a Pumpkin board for kids to score extra treats. And for party favors, I got those small cauldrons and filled them with the Ghoul’s mix M&M’s. The witch legs I made out of paper straws and I also added a few dollar store toys to make it more fun. The cute labels were also custom-made.

Overall, I got great feedback from my guests. And, of course, as any hostess will tell you, I am still trying to recover from all the work but it was all worth it! 🙂
