My daughter was born on Halloween almost 5 years ago. Since then I’ve been anxiously waiting for the right opportunity to throw her a Halloween-themed birthday party. I don’t want to do that every year or she’ll end up hating Halloween when she grows up so it’s important to be strategic when planning her birthdays.
Last year her birthday fell on a Sunday and she was just old enough to actually have fun with the theme. So when I started planning for it I realized it can be tricky to host a toddler-friendly Halloween party. I had to find the right balance between spooky and cute so that kids can enjoy everything and not be scared.

Decorations
There are a few ways you can go about it. Typical Halloween colors are usually black, orange, purple and green. But you can either go with lighter tones of those or even innovate and mix in others. Check out these ideas below.
Another important part of decorating for halloween are the emblematic figures: bats, black cats, witches, ghosts, vampires, monsters, jack o’ lantern…and the list goes on. In this case, just look for light and cute versions of those. I can’t handle this much cuteness…
And finally, it helps to use typical kid’s party decor elements like crazy balloons, colorful straws, banners and garlands.
Food
Another way to set the tone of a Halloween party is with thematic food and drinks. For adults, you can really crank up on the gore but with kids, the approach needs to be a little different. But that does not mean less fun. Look at these awesome ideas:

Last but not least, party favors! Kids expect something when they go to parties and that is especially true at a Halloween party when they are thirsty for treats.
