How to host an Olympics Watch Party

If you are like me, who always gets super excited when the Olympics come around and who was also frustrated last year when it was postponed, I have good news: it’s time! The Olympics will begin on July 23, 2021 and run through August 8, 2021.

To make it even more fun, my suggestion is to invite your family and friends to watch their favorite sports together and cheer on their teams. Throughout this post you will find everything you need to throw your own gold medal-worthy watch party.

Decorate

As we always emphasize in our posts, there’s no need to have a lot of decorative items, a few of them will already bring the theme vibes to your party. One good idea is to have an area that your guests can use as a photo booth during the party. To set it up, you can have a pattern Olympic backdrop and some related accessories, which they can use when taking pictures.

Another easy idea is to have food decorations, such as these stick flags that you can use on some cupcakes, for example. And also, if all of your guests will be rooting for the same team, it’s possible to choose the decoration based on the country flag colors. In my case, as we are from Brazil and have friends from around the world, I will ask them to bring their team flags or even wear their team shirts.

Streaming

It might seem obvious but this is the most important thing as we’re talking about a watch party. Make sure to check if the streaming channel is ok a few days before your party, so that you will have time to fix it if needed.

You can also watch the opening ceremonies, as well as all of the events on NBC, NBCOlympics.com, or the NBC Sports app.

Food and Drinks

I like the idea of having simple snacks such as nachos, mini hot-dogs and/or hamburguers. For the sugar lovers, I would suggest some cupcakes or mini donuts.

This is a good opportunity to ask your guests to bring their favorite beverages, so that you can also save some money as you will be already providing the food and the party space.

Host your Own Competition

Recently, I wrote another post about party activities for adults, where I shared some ideas for games. This is the perfect opportunity to have your own games with your friends and host a medal ceremony at the end. By doing a quick search at Amazon.com you will find some fake medals to increment your podium.

I hope this post helps you enjoy this Summer Olympics. Let me know what your favorite Olympics sport is by leaving a comment.
