I’ve written before about how planning a party can feel quite overwhelming sometimes. Have you ever wished you could snap your fingers and have the party just magically materialize in front you? So if you’re not one of those people who enjoy planning as much or even more than the actual party, I’ve come up with 4 essential rules to make the party planning experience less stressful so that you can actually enjoy the party when it comes to it.
1. Checklist
First thing you need is a dependable checklist to guide you through the process and to make sure you don’t forget anything. I find that a huge part of what makes me stressed out in several situations is because I feel overwhelmed with remembering everything that needs to be done. I have a post that suggests an essential party planning guide with a basic timeline. Use it as a baseline and customize it for your type of party and you should be good to go.
2. Outsourcing
If you are not the DIY type, don’t feel like you need to make everything for your party. That includes food, decoration, entertainment, party favors and whatever else is involved in your party. But remember that outsourcing probably means a bigger budget so, if this is a concern, you’ll need to keep a close eye on your expenses.
3. Help
You don’t have to be a wonder woman or a superman. There’s no competition or prizes for doing everything by yourself. Potlucks are always a good way to simplify and delegate, but you can also just enlist a few of the guests (closest friends or family members) to help out with some of the tasks on your checklist.
4. Self-service
Another big cause of party hosting stress is managing food, drinks and trash during the party. Don’t assume it has to be all on the host(ess). If you’re having a party at your home, guests will probably understand and even assume it will be self-service. Lay out the first round of appetizers and beverages and show everyone where they can refill. Put out trash cans and label them visibly so that you don’t end up with tons of empty cups and bottles lying around your house at the end of it.
I hope these 4 simple rules can help you feel more confident about hosting a party at your place. Don’t let these worries stop you from enjoying the company of your friends and family and having fun.
